Welcome to Raving Tans {the blog}

October 13, 2011

First of all, welcome to all of you that are friends and clients of Raving Tans and to all of you that may have stumbled upon this site and don’t know much about me or this little business.

I’m thrilled to have you! ♥

This is me and my biggest fan. ♥

This blog will be a place for me to share my thoughts on this “mommy hobby” turned business, answer questions, and also to show the amazing photos and tell the stories behind some of the clients and friends I have had the honor to bronze before their wedding day or some other very special occasion. It’s one thing to get an amazing photo after a special occasion and add it to my album on Facebook and it’s another to be able to actually share a bit about that person and showcase them on my blog! I am thrilled to be able to do this and have a LOT of catching up to do!!  Before and afters… YES PLEASE!

Blogging is something that I have only recently started doing, although writing is something I have done for a long time.

Just a little quick background, I used to be a sports writer for a local newspaper. How did that bring me to spray tanning may you ask? Well, good question! When I found out I was pregnant with my first baby, I realized quickly that climbing up into press boxes to watch high school football games and staying out late at night was just not in the cards. I had to quit that job only to take up coaching gymnastics. Yes, I know it sounds crazy. I actually coached gymnastics at a local high school for several seasons. As an ex-gymnast mamma-to-be I was quite a site. Those girls got to see me pregnant two times in 3 years! lol! Okay, where was I going with this… oh yes, back to tanning!

Once I had my second child though, I realized that once again, this passion was getting a little too tough to keep up and still be able to devote myself first and foremost to my husband and to my wonderful kids. But that didn’t stop me. I just had to develop an enthusiasm for something that I could do out of my home and travel only for special assignments when my husband could be home with the kids. It didn’t take long.

Tanning has been a part of my life for the past 10 years. Being a competitive cheerleader, going to school in Hawaii, and being part of many special occasions for my friends and family over the years, tanning was just another thing on the to-do list. I spent countless hours lying under the bulbs only to later find out how much damage I was actually causing myself by doing so.

Looking into other options, it was a no brainer. Spray tanning is one of the safest and most effective ways to continue looking “kissed by the sun.” Well, until you started looking at the price. The average cost of a single spray tan/airbrush session is $60-$120 {depending on location}. Get a tan or two a month and I’m sorry, that’s not in my budget! Yikes! So now I’m realizing that not only am I getting into something that I have invested interest in, safe tanning at an affordable price is a need and I want to fill it!

So my mind was made. I already had my B.A. in Communication and then I became a certified spray tanning technician by the National Tanning Training Institute. I do HVLP (High volume, low pressure) tanning from my home in North County, San Diego and mobile for tanning parties, single tans and different events. The products I have chosen to use are all organic and odorless. Even safe for those baby bumps! Gosh, I wish I was into spray tanning when I was preggo! Those were the whitest years of my life! lol!

What began as a “mommy hobby” has now become a business that I truly love. I feel blessed to help people feel just a little bit more confident in the skin they are in and to be able to offer them a healthy alternative to the bulbs. Friends don’t let friends fry under the bulbs!!! Like ME below at our wedding on 02.17.07. Oh bulbs… NEVER AGAIN!

Who would have known that a few years later I would be able to get back to my initial passion for writing as well! Win, win.

I want to personally thank the Lord for giving me this amazing opportunity to connect with so many incredible people, my husband for his constant encouragement and always believing in me, my children for being the reason behind looking into a profession like this and all my wonderful family and friends that have supported me since the beginning. I am truly grateful.
